So true

Cleaning and scrubbing can wait 'til tomorrow,
For babies grow up, we've learned to our sorrow,

So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust, go to sleep.
I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep.

Sir Nicholas is a teething monster.  He is keeping us up at night, or waking us at super early morning hours.  We are surviving.  I keep telling myself that this goes so fast, just hold onto him!

I don't know the author of this poem. But if you do, please let me know so that I may credit properly.

Happy weekend.

Say goodbye to the fab four

No, not that Fab Four (the Beatles are no longer, in case you missed it).

These fab four:

These four little teeth.  These four little teeth that make up his sweet baby smile.  Oh, they aren't going anywhere.  But they are soon to be joined by another tooth. Or possibly two more teeth. Or possibly four more teeth.  Because Nico has a lot of business happening inside of his mouth these days. Last night, I spied one tooth making its way in up top, and a hint of another on the other side up top.

I'll miss his little 'fab four' smile. To me, that's Nico.  And Nico's "dada" loves his four little toofys, too. (Just so you know that I'm not the only one.)

Does anyone have any secrets on how to get a baby to stay a baby a little longer? Bind his feet? Swaddle him all day?  Anyone???  Help!

Last night, I dreamed that I had decided that I was ready to have another baby!  I was all set and informed RWF of my our plans. Ruh-roh!  (I was soooo disappointed when I woke up and realized that it was just a dream.)
Happy Wednesday.

Mia Gianna: 13 months

Where did this baby go?

Dear Gianna,
You have passed the one year mark and have moved steadily onward.  You love:

  • clapping your hands,
  • playing peek-a-boo,
  • pulling up on everything,
  • drinking a bottle by yourself,
  • dancing to music, by swinging your arms from side to side, and
  • showing your disagreement by shaking your head "no" (often).
Right now, you are teething and we are having an awful time getting you to sleep at night. Napping for you is easy. When bedtime arrives, you act tired but you will not sleep.  Daddy and I have tried everything:  moving your bedtime up, moving your bedtime back, playing with you, giving you more bottles, rubbing your back, reading to you, putting numbing gel on your gums, and on and on.  This is tricky because we are afraid that this staying up late is becoming a habit.

You are such a communicative little girl; I just wish you would tell me what the trick is to get you to sleep. You are saying words, like: "maa-maa" (mama), "nigh-nigh" (night-night), "baboo" (bottle) and "bah" (bath). Speaking of "bah," you are a little mermaid.  You get so excited when it is bath time. You love splashing and sticking your face in the water (which scares me). And you get so mad when I take you out of the bath, kicking your legs and shaking your head "NO!"  Daddy thinks that you are ready for swim lessons, so maybe you will take swim lessons together soon.

You are a foodie. And it is so much fun to feed you different things and to take you out to restaurants. Like Bode, you love nothing more than eating food with other people who share your passion.  You have an 'ear' for food. If Daddy asks Bode if he wants to eat something, your little ears perk up. You drop everything and crawl over to your daddy to get the food item that was originally intended for your brother. You are like a dog after scraps, and could give Priscilla a run for the money.

Here you are making a beeline for a food item that Daddy has announced for Bode:

Happy 13 months, Gianna.
love,
Mommy
